‘So Far’ vs ‘Until Now’

In simpler terms, use “so far” when a situation has started, but it hasn’t finished. We’re still in it!

بعبارة أبسط، استخدم ”حتى الآن“ عندما تكون الحالة قد بدأت، ولكنها لم تنتهِ بعد. ما زلنا في اطار الحدث!

This is the best pizza I’ve had … so far!

(There might be better pizza out there, but up to this point, this one is winning!)

هذه أفضل بيتزا تناولتها... حتى الآن!

(قد تكون هناك بيتزا أفضل، ولكن حتى الآن، هذه هي الأفضل!)

The expression “until now” is a bit different. It’s used when there’s been a change in the situation. In other words, something was true up to this moment, but now it’s different.

عبارة ”حتى الآن“ مختلفة بعض الشيء. تُستخدم عندما يحدث تغيير في الموقف. بمعنى آخر، كان هناك شيء ما صحيحًا حتى هذه اللحظة، ولكنه أصبح مختلفًا الآن.

I’ve never thought about it that way until now.

(Something has made me see things differently, and my perspective has changed.)

لم أفكر في الأمر بهذه الطريقة حتى الآن.

(هناك شيء ما جعلني أرى الأمور بشكل مختلف، وتغيرت وجهة نظري).

(I used to be happy, but something has changed, and I’m not happy anymore.)
